Sandrine Colard

Sandrine Colard is onafhankelijk curator gebaseerd in New York en Brussel, onderzoeker en schrijver en assistent professor kunstgeschiedenis aan de Rutgers Universiteit (Newark, US). Ze behaalde een PhD aan Columbia University, is een specialist inzake wereldwijde moderne en hedendaagse kunst en een fotografie-historica met een focus op Afrika. 

Haar curatoriële projecten omvatten ‘The Expanded Subject: New Perspectives in Photographic Portraiture from Africa (als co-curator, Wallach Art Gallery, New York, 2016); ‘The Way She Looks : A History of Female Gazes in African Portraiture. Photographs from The Walther Collection’ (Ryerson Image Center, Toronto, 2019) en ‘Multiple Transmissions: Art in the Afropolitan Age’ (Wiels, Brussels, 2019). In 2019 was ze ook artistiek directeur van de Lubumbashi Biennale (Democratic Republic of the Congo) ‘Future Genealogies: Tales from the Equatorial Line’.

Een van haar huidige projecten is Congoville (Middelheim Museum, Antwerpen 2021).

Verder is Sandrine Colard een internationaal spreker (Concordia University, EHESS, Wiels, Bozar, European Parliament, MoMA, New York University) en de auteur van meerdere publicaties (African Arts, Critical Interventions, Cahiers du CAP, Cultures et Musées). Haar onderzoek werd ondersteund door menige fellowships, waaronder de quai Branly doctoral fellowship, het postdoctorale Labex Cap fellowship (INHA, Paris), het Provost Postdoctoral Fellowship (NYU Tisch School of the Art) en een Ford Foundation fellowship.
