Egon Van Herreweghe

Egon Van Herreweghe manufactures and manipulates photographs, sculptures and installations to explore his ongoing interest in the realm of images. Characteristic for his practice are fragmented, collage-based arrangements, combining pre-existing elements with works created in the studio, occasionally in collaboration with other artists. By addressing our collective relationship with design, fashion and advertisement, Van Herreweghe exposes how we continuously turn to media to discover and determine our motives and identities. Informed by the conditions of circulation as a sphere of exchange and value attribution, and as a site for the formation of desire, Van Herreweghe reminds us that making is a form of rereading, and to read the infinite recycling of signs and images means developing a visual literacy in the broadest terms.
