Bart Vandevijvere

Akkoord (schilderen met Jaap Blonk)

Bart Vandevijvere’s abstract painting quest is a balancing act between controlling and letting go. The control stands for rationality – insight and the skill of manipulation; letting go, on the other hand, creates cracks for external forces to creep in. Those external forces are the circumstances – the reluctance of the paint, physical laws, destiny. The entire composition concept is grafted onto the course, the cycle of coming and going, cause and effect.

Bart Vandevijvere allows himself to oscillate between assembling and disassembling and vice versa, between deconstruction and construction. Patterns dissolve, composition models seem to open up and fold up. He ventures into the field of tension in which the disintegration of the composition is an analysis, in which, through trial and error, he gets a grip on some processes, even though they retain their mystery. In this area he finds both a source of inspiration and an ally in contemporary (improvised) music.
