Stijn Cole

2 steps aside Branitz

In terms of the different media used, the work of Stijn Cole includes: video, sculptures, models, installations, paintings, graphic work and mixed media. In terms of content however, his work reveals a high degree of coherence and cohesiveness. In his work the perception of the environment is made abstract so that it gains a universal and conceptual value. The relationship between viewer, the work of art and the environment plays an important role each time.

Stijn Cole uses contemporary techniques in order to research recurrent classical themes: time is transformed through computer manipulation and security software into multi-coloured time bands that represent the colours of the air during a certain period, landscape painting is sublimated into two key colours and daylight has to pass first through a sensor and then a computer programme before it is transformed into the same daylight, but through tube lighting. The result is more than formal beauty, it forces us to see and experience light, colour, landscape or time anew.
