Pieter-Paul Mortier


Pieter-Paul Mortier is the artistic and financial coordinator of Courtisane vzw. He studied Audiovisual arts at Sint-Lukas Brussels and Media at Sandberg Institute Amsterdam. In 2002 he was one of the co-founders of the Courtisane festival. From 2005 till 2010 he ran a course Non-narrative Screenplay at Sint-Lukas Brussels and since 2014 he teaches Theory of Media Arts at KASK / School of Arts in Ghent. For many years he was curator Arts and Media at STUK arts centre in Leuven where he curated eight editions of the Artefact festival with among many others Lygia Clark, Dušica Dražić, Alia Syed, Renata Lucas, Christoph Fink, Maria Thereza Alves, Kiluanji Kia Henda, Luke Fowler, Sven Augustijnen, Rotor, Marjetica Potrč, Jeanne van Heeswijk, Luc Deleu, Irational.org, Artist Placement Group, Constant, Sarah Vanhee, YoHa, Simon Starling, Robert Morris, Joëlle Tuerlinckx, Wim Janssen, Manfred Werder, Elmgreen & Dragset, Taryn Simon, Julien Maire, Stefaan Decostere, Wesley Meuris, Michael Snow, Herman Asselberghs... 
At STUK, in collaboration with K-RAA-K and QO-2, he curated a series of programs on sound & sound art 'Displaced Sounds' (with Maryanne Amacher, Eliane Radigue, Akio Suzuki, Aernoudt Jacobs, Céleste Boursier-Mougenot, Charlemagne Palestine...) and many (solo) exhibitions with among others Harun Farocki, Alfredo Jaar, De Geuzen, Black Audio Film Collective, Ariella Azoulay, Aglaia Konrad, Sharon Daniel… For Courtisane he has been working on programs with dozens of filmmakers and visual artists: Annik Leroy, Michel Khleifi, Wang Bing, Pedro Costa, Sky Hopinka, Fairuz Ghammam, Manon de Boer, Marcel Ophuls, Sarah Vanagt, Kevin Jerome Everson, Eva Giolo, Akram Zaatari, Robert Beavers, Ana Vaz, Morgan Fisher, Parviz Kimiavi, Peter Nestler, Ismail Bahri, Lav Diaz...
