Yves Velter lives and works in Ostend. A sobering awareness of detachment and estrangement lies at the foundation of his work. His interest for human values is clearly apparent in the human aspect in his work. The existential questions and emotional issues which are related to them form the nucleus of his production.
 The tranquil characters in his work are based on existing people who are made anonymous by making them somewhat abstract in a timeless environment. They are placed in situations where they produce an opening in reality and in so doing break through the impossibility of providing an answer.
 Velter doesn't believe in finding answers through art, but in alternatives to answers, providing meaning to unanswered questions by depicting them and making them discussable.
