Maarten Van Roy - 26 Mixes for Cash #VII, IX (2014)

Ready Made, Dada, Concept Art, craftsmanship, surface, meaning. In his sculptures and drawings, Maarten Van Roy reflects and stacks these layers, relating them in an interpunctional way. The relationship fades between object, its denotation and its representation. Proper reading of what is seen seems somewhat inappropriate - what remains are bare signs as a thin line we have to balance.

The significance and value of an artwork results of much more than the mere skills of the artist. It is the product of discourse, processes, structures. Van Roy stresses that fact through his research on the language of sculpture in both formal greed and generosity. The tension between commitment towards and rejection of the motif is crucial – it hails from and points out an area intertwined with everyday life.
