Galeries
Some galeries do not only sell art works, but also engage with the artist to support research and artistic development.
Whitehouse Gallery is established in May 2014. It is situated in a beautiful rural setting just a short distance from the historic city of Leuven. The tranquil location and traditional architecture - a restored 18th-century villa, the building encircled by an historic 11-hectare arboretum - foster a dialogue between past and present, nature and culture, the local and global, and time and space. The site-specific approach gives rise to a unique experience for visitors and artists alike.
The expansion of the gallery in September 2017 has resulted in the opening of a new 120 m2 project space in an adjacent building. Twice a year, a curator is invited to select an international artist to exhibit in this resolutely contemporary setting. Given free rein to create a project, their work is presented in tandem with the programme in the main gallery. In September 2018, we also incorporated the 350 m2 gym of this sports hall into the gallery.
The gallery is committed to supporting established and emerging contemporary artists, with a special emphasis on nurturing the careers of the younger generation. The exhibition programme focuses on new work. By fostering collaboration between various players in the art field, Whitehouse Gallery aspires to be a dynamic institution that is open to innovation and new artistic developments.
