Geert Van der Straeten studied music pedagogy and composition at LUCA School of Arts, Campus Lemmens, 

Leuven.
Currently he works there as a teacher, as well as at the Hasselt City Conservatory. He is regularly commissioned to write. In total, he already issued more than 2.300 pages of music.

Recently he published a workbook for the course harmony / arranging / composition “101 Creative scripture exercises”.
He was awarded by the "Koninklijke Academie voor de Nederlandse Taal en Letterkunde" (Royal Academy for the Dutch Language and Literature) and the ISME.

His composition “Through the Twilight” for eight-part mixed choir was selected by the Flemish Radio Choir for

CD recording and live performance as part of the
World Choir Games in 2020.
