The Chris Joris - Bob Stewart Rainbow Band

Chris Joris / Bob Stewart band

Chris Joris can hardly be put into a defined category: bebop, African and Latin-American rhythms, free jazz and so on. Above all he is a blessed composer with a great love for ethnic traditions that he moulds into his own style.

On his first CD he invited tuba player Bob Stewart, which resulted in the brilliant CD 'songs for Mbizo' (Jazz'halo TS 0001). On his eighth CD ‘Rainbow Country’ (W.E.R.F. 057) released in 2006, once again Bob Stewart has joined him for a project with two other Americans: Eric Person (Dave Holland, Chico Hamilton and Ben Harper) and Reggie Washington (Branford Marsalis, Steve Coleman). Two percussionists aid the threesome for this project: the Mali-born master tamaniplayer Baba Sissoko and the South African Belgian Junior Mthombenie. Pianist Fabian Fiorini completes this band.

The omni-present rhythmic patterns in Chris Joris's work get the breathing space and creative room to get completely at the forefront.
