Marieke Berendsen


Marieke Berendsen studied violin at the Fontys conservatory in Tilburg (Netherlands). In 2006 she received her second phase diploma with Jenny Spanoghe. In 2008 she graduated a Master after Master ‘specialisation soloist contemporary music’, with great distinction, at the Royal Conservatory in Gent with George van Dam.

As a performer she concentrates especially on contemporary music. She has her own ensemble Mr. Probe. Mr. Probe is focussing on contemporary music in a more interdisciplinary context, he is always looking for collaborations with composers and other artists. Besides that she plays in ensembles like the Nadar Ensemble, Ensemble 306 and Besides. As a performer she is also taking part in projects by Champ d’ Action.

In her performance practise she regularly cooperated with both young as yet established composers like Beat Furrer, Richard Barret, Peter Swinnen, Klaus Lang, Willem Jeths, Simon Steen-Andersen, Karlheinz Essl, Matthew Shlomowitz, Marc Andre. Next to her practise as a musician she'e focussing more and more on the art of “creating”. “Develop and create own ideas, placing contemporary music in a wider perspective. Working together with other disciplines makes it possible for me to listen and look at music in a different and new way." To be able to develop herself as a “creator” as well, she started studying scenographie at the KASKA (Antwerpen) in 2010.
