Casimir Liberski
Casimir Liberski (°1988, Brussels) mostly self taught how to play the piano since his early childhood. Already at the age of 6 his major influences were Thelonious Monk, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, John lee Hooker, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, and Bill Evans.
At the age of 13, Casimir founded his own trio and started playing concerts around in Belgium and France. Casimir composed the soundtrack for the film Bunker Paradise by his father Stefan Liberski as well as many other short films by him and other Belgian directors. Casimir's most important musical encounter was probably with Ornette Coleman at the age of 14. He visited Ornette regularly in NY throughout his years of high school to learn improvisation and Harmolody. With Ornette, Casimir met a number of famous musicians such as Charnett Moffett, Warren Smith, and of course Ornette's son Denardo Coleman, as well as many others NY jazz musicians and artists. Casimir also had the great opportunity to become apprentice of Masabumi Kikuchi for a few years and was mentored by Brad Mehldau, Craig Taborn, Jason Moran, Vijay Iyer, Danilo Perez, Steve Hunt.
Casimir was graduated from Berklee College of Music where he was given prestigious Presidential Scholarship throughout his entire schooling. Casimir was the first European recipient for that award.
Recently, he recorded with the jazz bass virtuoso Charnett Moffett on his new album called "Treasures" featuring (Stanley Jordan, Denardo Coleman, Rodney Holmes) under the label Motema Music.
