Jonathan De Ceuster


Belgian countertenor Jonathan De Ceuster holds a Master's Degree in singing from the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp and a Bachelor's Degree in singing from the Brussels Conservatoire in addition to specializing in baroque voice at the Conservatoire de Metz, France.

During his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, London he worked with James Bowman, Paul Esswood and Laurence Cummings. It was there that he obtained a Postgraduate Performance Degree and a DipRam for his outstanding final recital. He also participated in masterclasses with Andreas Scholl and Michael Chance.

Jonathan is active in both the opera and music theatre fields and has performed baroque and contemporary operas at the opera houses of Antwerp, Ghent, Düsseldorf, Strasbourg, Geneva, Venice and numerous theatres all over Europe. He has sung the world premières of Achilleus (W. Henderickx), Richard III (G. Battistelli), Intra Muros (E. Sleichim), HRZSCHMRZ (S. Verstockt), and JJR (P. Phénelon).

On the choral scene, Jonathan regularly works with several early music ensembles such as Amsterdam Baroque Choir, Collegium Vocale Ghent, B'Rock, The Netherlands Bach Society, CantoLx, Choeur de chambre de Namur, BachPlus,... He has performed worldwide under the baton of P. Herreweghe, T. Koopman, S. Kuijken, F. Bernius, R. Egarr and many other outstanding conductors.

Jonathan De Ceuster was nominated ‘most promising singer of the year' by the international opera magazine ‘Opernwelt' for his part in ‘Achilleus'.
