Rudi Laermans

Professor Rudi Laermans is connected to the faculty of social sciences of the KULeuven (catholic university of Louvain), where he lectures on theoretic sociology. From 1992 until 2006, he also lectured cultural sociology at the KULeuven and was in charge of the Centre for sociology of culture. Moreover, Laermans was involved in the theoretic programme in PARTS, the international school of dance in Brussels led by A.T. De Keersmaeker, from its creation in 1995. Furthermore, he was a guest lecturer at the Design Academy Eindhoven and the Willem De Kooning Academy in Rotterdam for several years.

At the moment, he is a guest lecturer at the academies of art in Copenhagen (Denmark) and Malmo (Sweden). Laermans published numerous essays and several books (nationally as well as internationally), on social and cultural theory, cultural policy and participation, stage art (contemporary dance) and visual arts. He often focuses on a sociological perspective, but just as often on a wider theoretical view.
