Stijn Maes


Stijn Maes is a curator, writer and editor. He is currently the director of the Frans Masereel Centrum (Kasterlee, Belgium), an international center for contemporary art, combining an artist-oriented exhibition and production schedule with an international residency programme for artists and curators, often with a specific focus on printed matter-at-large. From 2013 to 2019 he was a guest professor at PXL-MAD School of Arts in Hasselt, Belgium, where he also founded the university gallery KRIEG.

Recent curatorial projects include ‘The Story of M.B. as told by Jef Geys’ (2021), ‘Walter Swennen: The Kasterlee Case’ (2021), ‘Solitude’ (2020), ‘Andrew Norman Wilson: Kodak’ (2018), ‘Pauline Curnier Jardin: You think you are within me now’ (2018) and ‘Emmanuelle Quertain: (…) l’espace reste libre.’ (2017). In 2017-2018 he was part of the editorial team of the first Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art (RIBOCA1).
