Sara Weyns

Sara Weyns has worked as a freelance publicist and curator since 2002. In 2005, she joined the Middelheim team as a curator and exhibition maker. Exhibitions for the Hessenhuis, the Middelheim Museum and the public space (both locally and internationally) followed from intensive collaborations with artists such as Chris Burden, Paul McCarthy, Andrea Zittel, Peter Rogiers, Marvin Gaye Chetwynd, Kader Attia, Richard Deacon and many others. Almost always, new works are created for those exhibitions, together with the artists, specifically for the museum or the location in the city. She has been the director of the Middelheim Museum since January 2014. Together with the museum team, she wants to create an appetite for understanding (sculpture) art from the pleasure of experiencing it. That understanding can consolidate an appreciation of the heritage collection that allows one to share responsibility for it and encourage others to do the same.
