Els Vermeersch

Els Vermeersch is a student of Art History and Literature at the University of Louvain (BE). She was a member of staff for several institutions, such as the Stichting Lodewijk de Raet, Moritoen and Vorming Plus. In that capacity she managed to reach a wide audience with an interest in (contemporary) art. Some of her most notable series were 'Leading Ladies in Art History', 'Art of the Twentieth Century' and 'Where Poetry and Visual Arts Intersect'. From 1995 until 2001 she organised many exhibitions in Art Centre De Poort in Zonnebeke (B). She was the curator for 'Lesensdelamort' (1999) and for 'Kamers op een kier' (2001). She also collaborated, as freelance curator, with art centre Wit.h to organise 'Ventilatie' in the Memlingmuseum Bruges (for the Corpusfestival 2005) and 'Bezet in Kortrijk' in 2008.

In that same year she becomes Laureate Scientific Staffresearcher for the museum formerly known as PMMK, followed by a period of nine years working for Mu.ZEE. In the latter, she combines her ongoing research with the production of many exhibitions, such as 'Ensor en de Anvant-gardes aan zee', 'Bij Ensor op bezoek', ‘Herinneringen.

In 2013 Els Vermeersch decides to concentrate on working with and among artists. Until today, she remains active within the Art Centre Wit.h in Kortrijk (B); a social-artistic organisation that links art to wellbeing. She still works freelance for several organisations and artists, such as Griet Dobbels (to whom Vermeersch is a Compagnon d'Art).
