Iris Paschalidis

Iris Paschalidis graduated in Painting and Art Studies in Brussels and Ghent respectively. Immediately after her studies, she explored contemporary art in Belgium by working for vzw Online/Richard Foncke Gallery, De Witte Raaf, Jan Van Eyckacademie, Radio Klara (Alinea), De Leeswolf and Kunsten en Erfgoed to land at S.M.A.K. in 2012, where she works as head of collection and curator on a variety of projects, including exhibitions and publications and collaborative projects with institutions outside the museum. Since the start of her career, she has come into close contact with many artists and their work(s). This regularly led to intensive collaborations, resulting in texts/publications, interviews, exhibitions and so on. Typical for Paschalidis' way of working is to intuitively read the work of an artist or theme and then, through discussion with the artist/curator, to search in free association for (new and often multi-dimensional) insights that can lead to a thorough freedom of observation and interpretation.
