Katerina Nikou


Katerina Nikou holds a MA in Arts and Heritage Management, Metropolitan University, London, and a bachelor's School of Philosophy, Department of History and Archaeology, Thessaloniki, Greece. Since September 2020, she has been a remote curatorial advisor at The Breeder Gallery, Athens, Greece. From January 2021 to April 2021, she worked as an external curatorial advisor of Pelagie Gbaguidi for her project at Centrale for Contemporary Art Brussels, Belgium. 

In September 2020, she presented the artist Andreas Angelidakis's video on the VDROME, a platform for videos initiated by Filippa Ramos (curator of Art Basel Film Program) and Andrea Lissoni (director of Haus der Kunst, Munich and former curator of Tate Modern). In August 2020, she received a grant from The Flemish Community in the Brussels - capital region (VGC), responsible for urban policy, culture, youth, sports, education, training, student affairs, welfare, health and family. Curator of a three-day program collaborating with Belgian collectives and artists, open and accessible to the public of Brussels for children and their families. In May 2018-June 2018, she was selected by the Dean of The Athens School of Fine Arts (Greece) and curated a large-scale international exhibition.

For two years (2018-2019), she was curator of the Public Talks and the Educational Program of the Art Fair of Athens. She curated and moderated a program about current issues of contemporary art: philosophies on curating art and audience, the Contemporary art scene in Athens (from 2000-2020), artists as curators, and Greek private institutions; among other participants were  Paul B. Preciado (philosopher, author, activist, curator, former curator of the Public Programs of documenta 14, contributor at Liberation and currently curator of the Public Programs at Pompidou Center, Paris, France). Elena Sorokina (international curator, former curator of documenta 14 and the HISK, School of Fine Arts, Ghent, Belgium, former curator at the Musee dArt Moderne de la Ville de Paris, France), Afroditi Panagiotakou (director of Onassis Foundation, Athens, Greece), Severin Duenser (curator of Belvedere 21, National Museum of Contemporary Art, Vienna, Austria).

September 2015-September 2017: appointed by Adam Szymczyk (director of documenta 14 ) as curatorial assistant of Public Programs of documenta14 in Athens, Greece and Kassel, Germany. Main collaborator of the curator of the Public Programs, Paul B. Preciado. In parallel, she was program coordinator of the 5th and 6th editions of the Athens Biennial, Athens, Greece and liaison between documenta 14 and Athens Biennale.  January 2013-December 2013: co-curator of the Athens Biennale, AGORA, Former Stock Exchange, Athens, Greece). 

2002-2015: Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Center curator, Athens, Greece. Primary duties: advisor for the artistic program, for the participation of the Center in international art fairs, head of press, head of sales communicating with collectors and art advisors).
