Kevin Botongo Kotahunyi

Contemporary art curator Kevin Kotahunyi founded the artistic and curatorial platform PLEASE ADD COLOR in May 2019. When he entered the art industry as an artist in 2018, only 1% of visual art students in Antwerp turned out to be people of colour. Proper guidance for these aspiring artists was also lacking.

Kotahunyi's curatorial projects are shaped by his own artistic experiences. He strives for more diversity in the visual arts and culture world as a curator and consultant. For example, from PLEASE ADD COLOR, he guides young artists of colour in the start and further development of their artistic career. This also translates into workshops.

Determined to build a strong community that creates access, engagement and opportunities for multicultural artists to redefine "the story", Kotahunyi with PLEASE ADD COLOR unites all cultures through art.

An exhibition he recently curated is the two-part group show "The Kids Are Alright" with co-curator Magali Elali. This project has been mentioned in various publications. For example, the exhibition was described as "7 things you don't want to miss during Antwerp Art Weekend" in Marie Claire, May 2021.

A feature interview with Kotahunyi can be read in the "Black Design" edition of Knack Weekend. Journalist Wided Bouchrika questioned the cultural diversity in Belgian architecture - and the lack thereof.

PLEASE ADD COLOR has been appointed curator for the Black History Month Belgium exhibition in March 2022. A selection of artists with sub-Saharan roots will merge in a group exhibition in Antwerp and Brussels.
