Philippe Druez

Philippe Druez is based in Ghent and has developed an unconventional and ever-growing art practice. In his groundbreaking and experimental projects, he investigates society, communication, the psyche and the individual within our social and ecological fabric. Based on extensive research, the art projects are given a scientific and historical undercurrent, which gives the often poetic works layering and depth.
As an artist, he creates open systems that emphasise the organism over the mechanism with dynamic processes between unexpected elements. The role of the participant is an inseparable part of the aesthetic experience. The installations are multi-sensory, interactive, layered, philosophical and challenging. Sound art has long been an embedded field of interest, but we know the artist as a maker, engineer, developer, designer, architect, composer, director and researcher.
Druez studied Philosophy at Ghent University, has academic bachelor's degrees in computer science and mixed media art and a master's degree in visual arts from Luca School of Arts. He is currently working on his doctoral research in musicology in 3D sound art at IPEM and KASK.
