Bart Geerts

Bart Geerts (1978) is a visual artist who creates visual thinking spaces: experiments in bringing looking, making and thinking into dialogue with each other. There is a particular interest in spatial (re)presentation models and medium experiments: explorations of the artistic potential of media both from within a specific medium and in interaction with other media. In 2012 Geerts obtained a practice based PhD on The Painterly, an exploration of the spatial dimension of a painterly language. As an artistic researcher Geerts also explores how writing, drawing and showing can be used as artistic research methods in their own right.

After studying Germanic Philology (KU Leuven) and Fine Arts (Sint-Lukas Brussels), Bart Geerts took the postgraduate course at the HISK (Antwerp/Ghent). He is currently a lecturer-researcher at LUCA School of Arts and assistant-professor at the Higher Institute for Philosophy of KU Leuven. At LUCA Geerts heads the research cluster on medium experiment in the research unit Inter-Actions.
