Beatrijs Albers

hide

Beatrijs Albers' artistic practice researches issues like identity, space, markings and territories. In her videos and installations she uses such diverse subjects as design, monuments and customary ways of dealing to question and break through all kind of barriers.
An important aspect of her work is the research on how people occupy space. She is especially interested in observing this as an outsider and likes to investigate this issue from a tourist point of view. As a tourist one has a certain goal to enter another space, which can consist of deciding to visit a certain venue, city or country. One marks out, stakes out, defines this goal and then studies it, first from the outside and then from within. Albers appropriates this way of discovering and researching and introduces it inside the exhibition space. By transforming and win this place over she confronts the real with the artificial and vice versa.
