My work concerns images that we make to orient ourselves in time and space, both physically and in our minds. You could call them landscapes in the broadest sense of the word. The experience and the magic of a place plays a major role. Architects call this magic of a place the 'genius loci'.

I strongly believe in the creative power of such a place, a place that we want to give a meaning, to get a grip on the things around us. It is a utopian aspiration, because I always clash against boundaries; getting a grip becomes impossible. Painting is as a metaphor of that utopia, a self-chosen limitation, where I try to situate my experience of getting lost in a certain place and time, as a consolation.
