Yvonne De Grazia

Smash

Yvonne De Grazia is an interdisciplinary artist based in Brussels, Belgium.
Her work conveys a visual proposal of a collective past and individual memory.
She collects data, figures, facts and low-res images often dealing with mutations caused by human (military and industrial power) and dissimulates them throughout different processes to generate a poetic or even surreal approach. Various processes such as recoloring, disguising, retracing, copying or analyzing colors – are done in a obsessive way, keeping autonomy of the works in progress and which puts her into someone else’s skin.

Selected elements are rearranged differently and manipulated until deployed for new materials. This process emphasizes typical female craftwork: low-ranked, repetitive and – and as a sort of silent protest.
Subjectivity fights back facts and undermines a delivered vision of the world - strictly individual feelings and intuition is rendered in a visual system throughout sensitive and meaningful transformation.
Recent executions include textile works: digital jacquards, knitting, manipulated textiles (collab projects) textile designs, printmaking, video and more.
