Mathias Prenen

Mathias Prenen °1990 studied Fine Arts - Sculpture at KASK & Conservatorium School of Arts Ghent and courses Japanese lacquer and textile dying at Kanazawa College of Arts Japan. His mostly sculptural works range from large scale installations, to human size objects. Oscillating between abstraction and representation the position and quality of pseudo-utilitarian objects and architectural elements are reformed and reintroduced. Using different alibi to anable the medium; he is architect through scenorgaphy, cultural anthropologist as totem builder and material historian as craftmen. This has led him to fragment and synthesize techniques of artistic production and methodology of cultural representation, rendering his practise a network of co-habitations.

His works were shown at CAB, Soft Focus Institute, BOZAR, CAAK & Kapo Residence Japan, Loods12, Marion de Cannière, The White House Gallery and collaborated with artist run spaces, temporary in-situ initiatives and off-fairs such as Poppositions2019. He worked with researchers, curators, artists and designers on scenography for interdisciplinary research projects in arts, design master classes (MVSC) and performance at School Of Arts Ghent.
