Herbert Foundation

A five-year process precedes the establishment of Herbert Foundation. From September 2008 onward, the Collection was housed in the Herbert Foundation in different phases and three years later the construction and renovation works began on the reception and gallery space situated at the Coupure in Ghent. On June 20, 2013, the Foundation opened its doors to visitors with the exhibition As if it Could. With regard to the organisation of temporary exhibitions including works from the Collection, as well as specific events (such as Master Classes, readings, special tours), the Collection and the Archive share an equal status. Stemming from a symbiosis between them, Herbert Foundation wishes to offer a breeding ground for research into the artistic practice of the second half of the twentieth century.
