Uitstalling Art Gallery

"Uitstalling," the South African term for "exhibition", was brought to life in 2019 by its founder, Danny Weckx. Although initially a businessman, Weckx's fervent passion for collecting art rendered him a unique and refreshing voice in the gallery world. His regular business trips to South Africa have allowed him to immerse himself in the country's unique art scene, a realm he discovered was largely underrepresented and undervalued in Western contexts. Primarily, he noticed that contemporary African artists, particularly those from South Africa, were overlooked. Weckx has made it his mission to rectify this imbalance, reshaping Western perceptions of African art.
Leveraging Weckx's extensive network in South Africa, Uitstalling Art Gallery brings both established and rising artists to Belgium's doorstep. The gallery holds steadfast to a social commitment of showcasing young, unknown artists, including those from townships, creating a vibrant mix of African talent alongside national and international artists. With a concentrated emphasis on painting, photography, and sculpture, Weckx's primary aim is to cultivate an enriching art experience. His goal is to present works that intrigue, confront, and touch audiences, ultimately enhancing their everyday life.
Nestled in Genk, Limburg—a city that harmoniously blends art, nature, and industrial heritage—Uitstalling Art Gallery situates itself at the periphery of Belgium. The Limburg region provides both physical and mental space for experimentation and transformation, and its strategic location on the Netherlands-Belgium-Germany axis makes it an ideal base for Uitstalling's international endeavors. The gallery encompasses three distinctive spaces within Belgium: the GALLERY, the KUBE, and the VILLA.
The GALLERY, modest in size, is a space for burgeoning collaborations and artistic experimentation. The KUBE, bearing a museological character, stands as an homage to the 'white cube' gallery aesthetic. This 'art temple', adorned in gold leaf, hosts large-scale installations and sculptures, showcasing pivotal exhibitions in artists' careers. Lastly, the VILLA, set within a former mining engineer's villa, serves as an intimate venue for exhibitions, artist talks, and the gallery's own collection presentations. The villa is surrounded by a serene garden dotted with outdoor sculptures.

Uitstalling Art Gallery extends its reach beyond Belgium to Poznań, Poland, where the MAD branch resides near the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of Arts. This location, strategically positioned between Berlin and Warsaw, serves as an ideal platform to expose Belgian-based artists to the international scene. In both Genk and Poznań, Uitstalling Art Gallery fosters strong collaborations with art colleges, offering young artists a platform to shine.
