Bart Rodyns

Bart Rodyns fw

Bart Rodyns revives classical and early music scores - with the utmost respect for the art of their composer. He performs them on historical instruments whenever possible, because every piece deserves the instrument for which it was originally written.

The music finds Bart Rodyns when he is still very young: an old organ, belonging to his aunt, triggers his passion for it, and makes him crave more. As a budding musician, he plays jazz and pop music: that way, he learns to improvise, en his life long love for the art is born. His first steps provide him with the perfect foundation to go on and master other genres, and to flawlessly interpret chord schemes and melodic lines of early and baroque music.

He finishes his studies with Dieter Van Handenhoven at the Antwerp music academy with the degree Classical Music for organ and harpsichord. He continues his education at the conservatories of Antwerp and Maastricht, studying with, among others, Dorthy de Rooij, Hans Leenders, Joris Verdin and Marcel Verheggen, and achieves his Masters degree in musical performance and education summa cum laude. With the guidance of Naji Hakim and Andrea Marcon, he continues to explore different musical styles.

Violinist Tijmen Wehlburg and Bart Rodyns form a perfectly aligned duo that brings expressive chamber music. Always warm and authentic, and a little quirky.

Together with tenor and good friend Jan Van Elsacker, Bart founds the ensemble Il trionfo del Tempo in 2007. It performs authentic music from the fifteenth and sixteenth century. Their debut at the festival Musica Antiqua in Bruges turns out a major success. It leads to their first recording in 2009, in collaboration with Flemish radio station Klara: Il Canto d'Orfeo.

Bart is the artistic director and continuo player of the renowned Euterpe Baroque Consort. This vocal and instrumental ensemble of professional international musicians brings authentic music on historic instruments. Recent highlights include the opening concert of the Festival of Flanders and Klara in't Paleis.
