Guido Piccard

Guido was born in Spalbeek, Belgium. He spent 15 years working as a doctor in general practice and started out his musical career as a guitar and bass player in local folk and blues bands. In 1983 he joined the Flemish folk band, Slemp. During the mid to late eighties he was involved in fieldwork with traditional Flemish singers and dulcimer players in Limburg and taught at many dulcimer workshops in Flanders, Wallonie and Holland.

As a member of Limburgs Dansorkest (LIDO) he performed in numerous concerts and festivals in Belgium, France and Germany, including St. Chartier, Ris-Orangis and Leipzig. Between 1990 and 1997 Guido had many of his compositions published, and he recorded a number of CDs and audio cassettes, including, Schudden aan de notenboom, a book of 180 tunes, Vingerspel en voetenwerk with Limburgs Dansorkest, De wentelsteen with Michel Terlinck (Flemish dulcimer) and Cooperation, a double CD of Belgian folk music, directed by Hubert Boone for Anvidis, Paris. Kadril, Compagnie d'Anvers and Ashels are amongst bands who have recorded Guido's tunes. Guido is also a member of the Irish band Éishtlinn(as is Philip), the flemish quartet Iduna, and has a folkdance ensemble called Papaver..
