Bart Defoort & Emanuele Cisi Quintet

Bart Defoort & Emanuele Cisi Quintet

This European quintet of Bart Defoort consists of seasoned musicians who have known each other for over fifteen years. In the meantime, all of them have become rock-solid figureheads in the European jazz scene. The Dutch drummer Sebastiaan de Krom, who moved to London, was Jamie Cullum's drummer for quite a while.

Their repertoire consists mainly of originals by Bart Defoort, Ron van Rossum and Emanuele Cisi and, every now and then, a good working over of an old classic. This is fresh, modern, straight jazz for the twenty first century. Music that oozes uninhibited imagination with passion, understanding and enjoyment bouncing off it, at every twist and turn.

The new compositions weave from hard bop to storytelling ballads over into compelling modal excursions. Their CD Sharing Stories on Our Journey was awarded the Django d'Or prize for Best Belgian Jazz album 2008. Unfortunately Cisi can't make it for the meeting but sure Bart Defoorts Quartet will share that story with you.
