Noah Thys

Noah Thys (°1992, Ghent) discovered music at the age of thirteen, when he taught himself how to play the piano. After finishing high school, he enrolled in a 7th year at MuDa, Evergem, where he studied piano under Sabine Haenebalcke. The following year, he went on to study composition at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, under Dirk Brossé, where he attained the degree of Master of Arts of Music, magna cum laude (2017). In 2021, he completed a classical singing degree, studying under Marcos Pujol and Hilde Verheyen, despite being heavily affected by contracting COVID-19 the year prior. He has followed masterclasses and workshops with The King’s Singers, Ratas del Viejo Mundo, Delphine Galou, Yuval Weinberg, Giuseppe Ravi, Bob Chilcott and Eric Whitacre, among others.

Noah likes to explore different styles, from classic to new media. The interest in the latter has led to all sorts of projects, such as participating in InMICS (International Master in Composition for Screen) in Bologna, Italy, and creating soundtracks for educational video games, such as Karaton and Stutter Stars. His concert music has been performed in all kinds of venues, including de Bijloke in Ghent (En Avant Mars festival, with Apsara trio), where he has also appeared on stage as a soloist (The Armed Man, Karl Jenkins). He has performed with various groups, such as the vocal ensembles Kalliope Gent, SAEVUS, Lyra di Orfeo, The Ghent Singers, and the Flemish Radio Choir under the baton of Eric Whitacre. In 2021, he became a member of the world-renowned ensemble ANÚNA. Later that year, Noah opened the 11th edition of the World Choir Games, where he shared the stage with Charlotte Campion, RoxorLoops, Charles Dekeyser, Astrid Stockman, and Rocco Granata, among others. During this festival, he also gave a workshop on the art of the “virtual choir”. Several of his works have also been recorded on CD, such as De Waterlelie on the CD Les Flandriens, by the Flemish Radio Choir, and the finale of his first string quartet, Saifu, on Fingerprints #4 (an initiative by Radio Klara, ComAV, and Sabam for Culture), performed by the Desguin Quartet.
