Museum Vleeshuis / Klank van de Stad

Museum Vleeshuis

The Antwerp Museum Vleeshuis (Butchers’ Guild Hall) reopened in 2006 with a completely revamped design focussing on a unique theme: music life in Antwerp throughout the centuries in all its facets. Instruments, prints, manuscripts, books, paintings and scale-models narrate the exciting story of minstrels, carilloneurs, opera singers, music in the church or on the streets, public concerts, and dance halls after 1800. Reconstructions of the bell-foundry of Sergeys and the workshop for brass instruments of Van Engelen also fire the imagination. A unique hand computer enriches a visit with further music and information.
