Rooftoptiger

Rooftoptiger is an Antwerp based artist collective that creates participative and performative installations in public space. The main concept in their work is that of ‘The Machine’, the installation that functions as the protagonist and carrier of the content/vision. ‘The Machine’ is in fact an anti-machine: she spreads different experiences and conditions, works on human energy and stimulates the senses. The installations are often site-specific creations that try to entice audiences, residents and visitors to undertake action and become a playful and critical designers of their own neighbourhood. Rooftoptiger often works with recycled and local materials, found near the temporary workspaces. The projects are driven by a hunger for autonomy, freedom, encounter and wild aesthetics, and question current dynamics of society. The Rooftoptiger crew is a constantly changing group of artists, performers, poets, thinkers and skilled craftsmen. Their end product is mostly a process-orientated co-creation by a larger group of people. The projects are initiated by Sara Dandois and Bram Rombouts, both autodidact visual artists and scenographers. Bram Rombouts focuses on the visual and technical part of the installations, whereas Sara Dandois specialises in the field of the participatory and performative aspects.
