Stijn Demeulenaere is a sound artist and radio maker. After getting a degree in sociology and cultural studies he started working for radio and creating sound pieces. His work includes soundscapes, installations, performances and sound for dance and theatre. Demeulenaere is attracted to sound because of its directness, it’s malleability, and it’s mystery. As a medium it’s both very physical and yet very open to interpretation. In sound he tries to unravel social structures, personal history and the unconscious imagination of people. He is currently working around the themes of the ruin of listening and the personal experiences of sound and is researching the artistic forms and questions that arise from a phenomenological approach to sound, listening and identity. Stijn lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
