Apotheosis

Apotheosis was founded in early 2011 as a late baroque quartet, recording a first demo-CD with works by Telemann and F. Couperin in the same year. Soon the need for a more flexible concept arose, however, where the realisation of musical ideas became of greater importance than a fixed group with a limited repertoire. Because of this, Apotheosis evolved into a dynamic collective, with on one hand the Ensemble Apotheosis, whose main focus is chamber music, and on the other hand the Apotheosis Orchestra, which performs larger works from the seventeenth up to the twentieth century. Both formations are led by conductor and harpsichordist Korneel Bernolet.

Sinds they were founded, Apotheosis has been regularly performing both in Belgium and abroad. In 2014 and 2015, they were invited by Flemish classical broadcast Klara to perform at the festivals Klara in de Singel and Iedereen Klassiek, and in 2016 they published their first official CD, featuring chamber music by Rameau. For the 250th anniversary of Telemann's death, they produced his opera Orpheus in 2017, in collaboration with students of the International Opera Academy Ghent. In the same year, they also staged a production of Brahms' Deutsches Requiem.
