Geert De Bièvre started his music studies with S. De Raedt and E. Carlier. Later on, he studied with H. Mannes at the Lemmensinstitute in Leuven. In 1988 he obtained his laureate certificate and won first prices in chamber music, violoncello and higher certificate violoncello with great distinction and gratulations of the jury. He is a laureate of the National Musiccontest of the ‘Gemeentekrediet’ and was selected for Sir Yehudi Menuhins’ project ‘Live Music Now’. He won a ‘Festival Award’ of the Flanders Festival International Contest for young musicians and was awarded by the audience in the U.M.- project for students of higher certificate from Flanders and Holland in Tilburg. He is also laureate in the contest ‘Tenuto’ of the Belgian Radio and Television.
During 1988-1989 Geert De Bièvre studied with Christoph Henkel at the Musikhochschule of Freiburg im Breisgau and took masterclasses with Boris Pergamenschikow, Heinrich Schiff, Marcio Carneiro, Collin Carr and Thomas Demenga. He performed in various solist concerts and radio- and television shows with concerto’s from Haydn, Tsjaikowsky, Elgar, Schumann, Dvorak, Lutoslawsky, De Jong en Lindberg. He is a cello soloist at the Beethoven Academy, teacher cello at the music academy of Lier and the Lemmensinstitute Leuven. He is a member of the ensembles Prometheus, Ictus and Explorations but also plays in other groups of chamber music on the Flanders Festival, concerts of the museum for ancient art in Brussels and concerts of the Munt Theatre.
