Pieter Lenaerts

Double bassist, °1977 in Belgium, playing double bass since 1996. Since 1999 playing around in different bands, ensembles, orchestras and other musical projects.

Involved in a diverse mixture of jazz, folk, world and classical music. Learned jazz on jam sessions mostly. Got into folk and worldmusic a lot thanks to Ethno (international summer projects), source for many musical discoveries, meetings and collaborations.
Studied classical music in conservatory. Big interest in the contemporary repertoire, constantly working on contemporary repertoire for solo double bass.

Since 2007 house composer/musician of contemporary dance company Galothar. Since 2003 quite regularly accompanying puppeteer Matija Solce. Also freelance contrabassist in classical orchestras and ensembles. From time to time playing in some bands too.

Recordings: so far sideman double bass player on two albums: Griff, a Belgian folk music project, and Ilayha Wah Ilayh ("Things may Change") by Tunisian brothers Amine and Hamza M'raihi.

Studies: fulfilled master studies of composition in Leuven, and afterwards did the same thing for classical double bass in Gent.

Apart from playing also working as a double bass teacher.
