Yoann Van Parys

At the heart of the practice of Yoann Van Parys, born in 1981 under the sign of Scorpio, there might be the idea of ‘contact point’: a spot where image and matter, individual and collective imagination come together.

Such an encounter would inevitably pertain of surrealism. There would be elements there that would collide, finding themselves face to face in some form of stupor. But it would also involve the debates of philosophy or even politics, since globalisation today brings cultures and individuals whose values are radically opposed face to face.

Coming from drawing, comic strips, then photography and art writing, the artist examines the image and its aesthetics from different angles and effects combinations like an alchemist and plays several parts himself: all of this in order to probe the existence (or absence) of boundaries (or areas of contact) between singularity and universality.
