Maud Gourdon

Cataplasme ! (2022)

Maud Gourdon is a visual artist based in Brussels who mainly experiments with the way language and linguistic principles can be used to create visual and spatial narratives. These narratives are composed of publications, texts, drawings and sculptures that culminate in installations.

Gourdon's installations tend to be rooted in intimate stories and familiar objects, which she intertwines with language games and, above all, coincidences, such as a slip of the pen or tongue.

Recently, her sculptural practice has turned to experimenting with organic materials. This research is accompanied by a growing interest in disciplines identified as 'feminine', 'passive' or 'minor', such as decoration and ornamentation, hobbies and craft, alternative medicine, pseudo-sciences and mysticism. By linking these to personal memories, notable events or figures Gourdon's aim is to highlight these under appreciated practices as inspiring and positive work.
