NTGent

As an international city company, it presents productions at the Royal Dutch Theatre (KNTS). Starting in season 23-24, NTGent's artistic direction will be in the hands of a trio: Barbara Raes, Yves Degryse, and Melih Gençboyacı. They represent a polyphonic, shared, and caring leadership style. The trio succeeds Milo Rau, who has been artistic director since 2018. Under Rau, participatory practices were primarily framed within a production logic through so-called people's projects, in which the director worked with a mixed cast of professional and non-professional actors. Raes, Degryse, and Gençboyacı, who will truly take the reins in season 25-26, are prioritizing a new approach and aim to reclaim the city as an important space and playground alongside the theater/stage. Through an artistic line centered on care, rituals, and digital technology, NTGent strives to bring together diverse creators, audiences, languages, and bodies.
